on the higgins homestead: Spring Break

On Thursday, the kids and I drove down to Kingman to see Bryan and Julie. It was Spring Break for Zach, so I took a few days off from work and we packed up the car... and left David behind to work on tax returns :( We had been planning this trip for a while and I was getting very anxious to see PB&J. On the way down there, I kept thinking that Avery and maybe even Zach would take a nap, but they were both awake for the whole trip. We made a brief stop at Park City for lunch at McDonald's and got to Kingman around 2pm. We went to the playground and colored and watched a movie. Bryan and Julie even made us dinner... roast beef sandwiches with au jus! YUMMY!!! The next day we got up and had breakfast and Bryan introduced me to chocolate chip waffles with peanut butter and chocolate syrup! (I know he's a little weird, but we still love him.) Then we drove to Wichita to visit the Sedgewick County Zoo! It was very windy, but the temperature was just about perfect. We got to see lots of cool animals! Some of our favorites were the elephants, turtles, baboons and the geese(which were everywhere) and the sheep in the petting zoo. The kids got to feed the sheep and the fish and the ducks! We also packed a picnic lunch and ate it under a pavilion in "Asia". We made one last stop on the way out... the gift shop :) Actually, you have to walk through the gift shop to get out of the zoo!!! We looked around for a little while and we let Zach and Avery each pick something out. Zach got a giant neon green snake AND Avery got a cute little purple sparkly turtle that she calls "baby"! We relaxed for a bit after getting home from our exciting afternoon. That evening we ate pizza and played at the playground AGAIN and watched Kung Fu Panda :) We slept in on Saturday morning and then packed up all our stuff for the long drive home... and both of the kids slept on the way back ;) We had so much fun with Aunt Julie and Uncle Bryan and we look forward to their next visit... hopefully in May for Avery's 2nd birthday!!!
